It has now been almost 2-years since Merck Sharp and Dohme at Ponders End in the United Kingdom purchased the Autopol V polarimeter. If you cast your mind back, you may remember how cautious I was when deciding to purchase this instrument since there were no other companies in the United Kingdom using your company’s equipment at that time and I was concerned about instrument reliability, service and support. I need not have worried. The instrument has given us faultless service. In fact I have been more than impressed with it’s accuracy, precision and reliability. Your partner in the UK, Spectronics, has been an excellent company to work with, always responsive to requests for help or information. They have carried out planned maintenance, firmware upgrades and calibration of this instrument to high GMP standard. We chose your instrument above it’s main competitors largely for it’s ability to store results electronically without the need for a stand-alone PC and its Peltier sample compartment temperature control which avoids the requirement for a separate water bath. Along with your sample cells and certified quartz plates (which were manufactured to our specific requirements), this arrangement has worked superbly and makes specific rotation and temperature calibration extremely quick and easy. We have seen no drift in calibration values or experienced reproducibility problems at all. This instrument is rock solid. Based on 2-years experience with this instrument, I would certainly purchase again if the need arose, and would have no hesitancy recommending this instrument to anyone who has similar requirements.
